You Probably Look Better Than Lindsay Lohan, Mommies

Age is so deceptive. Despite women of all stripes consistently trying to appear younger, perpetually retaining the look of a 29 year old, we need to take a moment to acknowledge that not all 20-somethings appear fresh from the fountain of youth. Case in point: Lindsay Lohan.

The 25 year old recently attended the Cynthia Rowley show at NYC’s Fashion Week. With her practically white blonde hair and heavy spray tan, Ms. Lohan assumed her seat. Upon seeing the young actress, journalists assumed that she was 56-year-old Donatella Versace. No, really.  New York Magazine reports:

For one glorious, confusing moment, we ”” and, we later learned, everyone in the rows around us ”” thought this walking creamsicle had to be Donatella Versace. Then, the entire room full of journalists sat ramrod straight and let out excited, disbelieving, four-letter expletives as we all realized this was actually Lindsay Freaking Lohan…The take-home here for Lindsay should be that we all initially mistook her for somebody much crispier who is thirty years her senior…”

It’s true that Lindsay appears a tad more weathered that your average young woman, most likely due to various lifestyle choices. But even without the dramatic changes of pregnancy, not to mention the stresses of parenting, Ms. Lohan manages to pass for 50+ years old easy — and not in a graceful or classy way such as my most beloved style and beauty icon, Isabella Rossellini.

Isabella looks so gorgeous and refined at 59 years old. The model, actress, and mother was of course, so arresting in younger years, but as a woman getting on into 60, I really admire the way she isn’t throwing around any pretense regarding her age. She stylishly appears like she’s in her 50s, not like a woman in her 50s who is trying to look like she is in her 20s.

And as Ms. Lohan continues to demonstrate, youth does not immediately equate vibrancy, which is essentially what we’re all looking to bottle, sell, and recapture as we age. I can’t speak for you reader, but as a young woman myself, I’d rather look like Isabella tomorrow than Lindsay Lohan in 20 years.

So the next time you feel like criticizing your stretch marks or varicose veins, remember that at first glance — you’re probably more vibrant than this 25 year old.
