Woman Turns To GoFundMe For Her IUD, Internet Calls Her A Slut

A woman who can’t afford long-term contraception but also does not want to have a baby right now decided to take to GoFundMe to try to get some help funding an IUD. In a logical world, people who oppose “hand outs” or state help would be all over this. No unwanted baby, no abortion, no possible future state help for child care, food, etc., right? But we don’t live in a logical world. We live in a world full of people who would rather fight to force women to have babies they don’t want, then do anything productive to stop those babies from being born in the first place.

We also live in a world that regards women as sex objects, while at the same time degrading them if they actually dare to have sex. Don’t try to understand it — it’s futile. The Times Free Press wrote about Lauren Kramer‘s GoFundMe plan, and posted it to their Facebook page. All manner of Facebook users decided to surface to hurl insults at Kramer, because only sluts want birth control, or something.

Kramer says on her GoFundMe page, “Long term birth control is expensive. Having a baby is even more expensive. Help me pay for an IUD so that I don’t have to worry about the cost of either of these things.” In addition to trying to raise the $800 an IUD would cost her, Kramer says she is also trying to raise awareness regarding the lack of sex education in her home state of Tennessee:

Kramer is passionate about reproductive health. She thinks there’s not enough education about sex and that birth control is often unaffordable or inaccessible.

“This is an issue that’s very important to me,” she said.

“There’s just not access to sexual education here,” she said. “It’s abstinence-only in Tennessee. Growing up, I just didn’t get the sex ed I needed.”

Reading some of the comments on the Times Free Press Facebook page sent me down a rabbit hole of denial, shaming, and ignorance. Here are a few of them. Facebook is public, y’all. Your ignorance and misogyny is showing. Thankfully, you’re all probably too dumb to care.

1. Smh

Great advice! Yes, they will have a “vested interest.” I like you more because I invested in that IUD in your body. That makes total sense.

5. Free birth control everywhere.

Where is all of this free oral contraception?

6. Thanks Obama!

Thanks Obama! Everything is free now! Wait, no it’s not.

7. Just saying.

People who say “just saying” at the end of what they just said are always assholes, aren’t they?

8. I can’t keep my legs closed! crowdfund-iud-facebook-reactions

Pretty sure this douche has never had consensual sex in his life. Notice the abbreviation for “just saying” at the end of what he just said? Told you!

9. Brian’s clever.

There are 177 douchebags on Facebook who actually think this guy’s random use of capital letters is funny.

10. Sue thinks she’s clever, too.

I love it when women bash women who are ultimately trying to help women. No, I don’t. Yuck, Sue.
