Woman From Viral Catcalls Video Gets Rape Threats, Totally Proving Her Point
Shoshana B. Roberts‘ video has now been viewed over six million times, and Hollaback, who produced the video, reports that she has been receiving rape threats. Because of course she is. Because that is how a man who hates women reacts to being criticized by a woman. That’s how they say: You think you have power, bitch? Well I wish someone would take away your power by raping you. You’re right, guys. Clearly women have no reason to be afraid of strange men; it just took your threat of rape to make me see that.
The comments today contain a whole lot of racism, a sprinkle of anti-semitism, and a dash of “she’s ugly anyway.” Most of the men commenting are flabbergasted by the fact that women could think that someone saying “hello” to them is considered harassment. Listen, if you can tell me that one single man in that video who said “hello” to her wasn’t really saying “I’d like to fuck you,” then I will eat a lit match.
Tell me how any of these comments are supposed to make women feel reassured, not judged, or safe on the streets:
Gnarly is right! Dress like you’re not single! Which means…well, I’m sure he’ll be back with a style guide for us.
It’s important to have have our happiness when we’re young, because no one gives a shit about women over 30. So yeah, go show it off! Shake it! Encourage men to tell you how much they enjoy your looks because that is where you can store up your self-worth for the dried-up and withered years.
But also, cover up and don’t dress like a whore in pants and a top.
I’m starting to get confused.
There we go. ThaGkillah has broken this all down for us. Just don’t wear make-up (because women who wear make-up are asking for it), don’t walk in fucked up areas of your city (some of us are going to need to move), and don’t walk around outside during the worst possible time of day (which appears to be daytime.)
Alternatively, you can kill yourself.
Honestly, women. What are we complaining about?
