The Obamas Don’t Like Their Daughters Watching The Kardashians

You’re not alone in your distaste for your kid’s keeping up with the one of the most popular families on television. Even President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama worry about how much time their daughters, 10 and 13, spend watching the Kardashians. And isn’t just Michelle who takes issue with the girls following the televised lives of the Kardashian women. Barack isn’t much of a fan either.

When asked if there are any shows that are off limits for Malia and Sasha, Michelle said:

“Barack really thinks some of the Kardashians– when they watch that stuff — he doesn’t like that as much,” said the First Lady, “but I sort of feel like if we’re talking about it, and I’m more concerned with how they take it in — what did you learn when you watched that. And if they’re learning the right lessons, like, that was crazy, then I’m like, okay.”

While I’m not much of a reality TV fan myself, I like Michelle’s approach to engaging the girls about what they see as opposed to banning it all together. It does seem as though Michelle is savvy to how hours of screen time in front sexist media can impact a child’s development, as she does limit TV and computer time. iVillage reports that Malia and Sasha are prohibited from watching television or hanging out online during the week unless doing research for school. The girls are permitted limited television on the weekends.

And who exactly helps her enforce such stringent rules on media consumption? The secret service?
