This Sweet Thank You Note to a Teacher Will Give You All the Feels

Teachers are underpaid and underappreciated, which is why I constantly thank my kids’ teachers for all the crap they have to put up with. However, there’s at least one student out there who truly appreciates everything his teacher does for him, and he’s written about it in the most tear-jerking thank you note I’ve seen in ages. I’m dead inside, but even I teared up while reading this sweet expression of gratitude.

Twitter user @mainey_maine walked into his classroom two days ago and discovered a note left for him by one of his students. “So I walked in the classroom and found this letter on the desk that one of my kids wrote me and… I tried so hard not tear up,” he tweeted. When you read the letter, it’s not hard to see why.

The letter reads,

“To Mr. J,
Thank you for being a awesome teacher and for being amazing! This school year was so fun and I enjoyed it because of you. I wish more teachers was like you. I will never forget you. I look at you like my dad. I never met my real dad but it okay because you treat me like I’m your son. You make me so happy. Always feeding me when I am hungry and hug me when I am sad. I will never forget you Mr. J. I love you and I will never forget about you!
Love, Markus”

I can't handle it, y'all

This letter so perfectly encapsulates how teachers do so much more for our kids than just teach. They nurture, they encourage, and they LITERALLY feed children. They love our kids in such a special way, and they often go far above and beyond what’s in their job description – and they don’t think twice about it.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter collectively lost its shit over the letter, which has been liked over 400,000 times. @mainey_maine (aka Mr. J) teaches fifth grade, and he told others on Twitter that he did eventually cry over the letter. He also said his heart dropped when he read that his student had never met his real father. Mr. J is especially thankful for the incredible outpouring of love and support he’s received. “So much love and support in my mentions. I appreciate y’all. My eyes are red and puffy from crying,” he wrote on Twitter.

The world needs more teachers like Mr. J – and more grateful students like Markus.
