Whitney Houston Plays A Mother In Final On-Screen Performance

Whitney Houston SparkleThat Whitney Houston sparkle may have been captured as such one last time. Whitney wasn’t only mother to 18-year-old Bobbi Kristina Brown, as at the time of her death, the superstar had finished wrapping a film in which she played mother to a trio of musical sisters.

In what was slated to be her cinematic comeback, Whitney played the role of mommy along side Jordin Sparks, Cee Lo Green, Mike Epps and Derek Luke in a film entitled Sparkle. CBS News reports that aside from appearing in the film, Whitney was also executive producer and recorded several songs for the film. Perhaps most ominously, Sparkle apparently illustrates the impacts of drugs and fame on the three sisters.

Sony has announced that Sparkle will be opening in theatres on August 17th, 2012. After Whitney died, Sony released the following statement:

“Like all those who knew and loved her, we are shocked and saddened and the world has lost an incomparable talent. Right now our thoughts are with her daughter, her family and her friends.”

The exact cause of Whitney’s death has yet to be determined. Yet appearing before audiences as a mother guiding her daughters along the entertainment industry seems like a fitting, and perhaps flattering depiction of the diva to leave with her fans. Although she was a mother in life, her final on-screen performance as one will no doubt leave a lasting impression to those who followed her career.

Below is an clip from last autumn which features Whitney and Jordin chatting about Sparkle on set.
