Vanessa Hudgens Chops Off Hair, Feels Like ‘Soccer Mom.’ Wait, I’m Kind Of Offended

By now you’ve seen the photos of Vanessa Hudgens‘ new ‘do (if not, look left). The High School Musical hottie chopped off her locks for a new role in Gimme Shelter, in which she plays a pregnant teen who leaves her abusive mother’s home in search of her biological father, who insists she get an abortion (when she refuses, she’s forced to live on the streets).

“I kind of feel like a soccer mom,” Hudgens told Access Hollywood of her new look. “There’s nothing wrong with soccer moms, but I’m only 22!” Meanwhile, Twitterers (or is that Tweeps?) have been quick to criticize her crazy short new ‘do, calling it unflattering and, my absolute favorite, “matronly!”

Yes, Hudgens does indeed look like a mom a 1930s mom, that is. It is now 2011 and, last I checked, moms are actually cool and gasp! stylish. Sure, you may see the odd suburban-type clad in high-waisted “mom jeans,” or even an actual urbanite caught in Lululemons. But, for the most part, we are not our mothers at least not when it comes to style. And, so, call me crazy, but I find this whole “mom” description offensive.

Does Heidi Klum look like a “mom”? Gwen Stefani? Miranda Kerr? Angelina? I could go on and on, but I won’t. The truth is, I’m not seething over the comment and I even kind of get what she means but, I don’t know, it just seems like a bit of an outdated notion. How many women do you know who chopped their hair once they became moms? The ones I know simply throw it back in a loose ponytail and look even more “on trend.”

MILFs of the world, unite!
