Black Friday Fail: Woman Attacks Fellow Shoppers With Pepper Spray

Black Friday is upon us, which means killer deals across the country. And, as we know, some people will do anything for a bargain: brave crowds, travel far distances, camp out in store parking lots. But when there’s pepper spray and guns involved, that’s when you know you have a problem.

In Los Angeles, one woman is being sought by police following a Black Friday shopping-rage incident that had her pepper spraying fellow shoppers at Wal-Mart. According to reports, 20 people were injured, including children. Many complained of burning in their throats and skin and eye irritations.

“They were opening a package to try and get some Xboxes from a create and this lady pepper-sprayed a whole bunch of people in order to gain an advantage,” said L.A. police Sergeant J. Valle.

Can you imagine? The whole thing is sickening to begin with but when I heard that there were children involved, I couldn’t believe it. What kind of person injures a child a child! to get a good deal on electronics?

The whole thing actually reminds me of being a child during the whole Cabbage Patch Kid craze in the 80s. I remember my father, bless him, braving insane crowds and long lineups at at Toys ‘R’ Us (or maybe it was Wal-Mart) to ensure his spoiled children would have one of these coveted toys. There were media reports at the time of shoppers going crazy and fights breaking out in various stores across the country (as in, grown men punching each other in the face all so they could get their hands on a Cabbage Patch Kid). Charming, isn’t it?

Meanwhile, in a separate Black Friday incident, a pair of attackers shot a 55-year-old woman in the foot at a carpark near a Wal-Mart in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, during an attempted robbery, according to reports. A similar incident occurred the carpark of a Wal-Mart in San Leandro, California, as a man was shot while walking to his car at around 1 a.m. (he’s in critical but stable condition).

The list of violent incidents goes on and on. It’s sad and crazy that people will go to such extreme measures for a good deal. It’s no wonder so many parents choose to stay home instead following a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Clearly, it’s the safest place to be.
