Mommyish Poll: Should The Couple Charged With The Second SIDS Death Of Their Infant Have Been Charged For The First?

Mark Clark and Vanessa Clark have been officially indicted for endangering a child after they lost two infants within two years to co-sleeping. The first death of the 39-day-old baby boy was ruled out as an accident but the parents were still held accountable. The couple was ordered to take Safe Sleep training with Child Protective Services in which they were instructed on the importance of sleeping alone.

But after the death of their second baby due to SIDS, the Clarks are seen as ” ‘intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence’ put[ting] the child at risk of ‘imminent danger of death, bodily injury, or physical or mental impairment, by sleeping with said child in the same bed when said child that was less than four months of age,’ ” to quote ABC News. Considering the first death of their son and the Safe Sleep training, this seems like a fair assessment.

Yet, it’s still unsettling that it took the death of two infants to charge the couple with endangerment. What do Mommyish readers think?
