Helen Mirren Sends A Warmhearted PSA On Sexless Marriages

Some may swear that sexless marriages are doomed for divorce while others attest that a union based solely on sex has about a zero percent chance for longevity. But notable actress Helen Mirren has placed herself in a very different camp, exerting her own take on the various types of marriages out there and what they need to thrive.

Mirren made a PSA for non-sexual marriage when promoting her film Hitchcock. The actress told Australian Women’s Weekly:

“I don’t know why people have this idea that all marriages have to have sex because really, they don’t…There are other types of glue that hold people together.”

But Taylor Hackford‘s wife of nearly 15 years also clarified that she is not commenting on her own marriage, but rather that of her character, Alma Hitchcock. In the film, her character reportedly struggles with a marriage that is a little less than physical, begging Alfred Hitchcock to desire her.

Mirren reportedly empathizes with her character in this regard:

“Of course, she’s his wife, she wants him to think, or to say, ”Oh, look at you you look so chic!”

“It’s not ‘get your knickers down, darling,’ but all women or many women want to be told they look nice.”

Just another lesson in different strokes for different nuptial folks.
