Same-Sex Kiss In Urban Outfitters’ Catalog Stupidly Angers One Million Moms

one million momsNormally I’m not the judge-y type but I will go ahead and say that the people behind One Million Moms need to get a life (or at least a hobby). That’s because they’re outraged over the same-sex kiss featured in Urban Outfitters‘ April 2012 catalog (oh, the horror!). Page two of the catalog shows two women kissing, which One Million Moms deems “inappropriate.” In fact, the organization is on a crusade to ban Urban Outfitters altogether, and they’re urging other concerned mom to take action. Here’s what’s on their site at the moment:

WARNING! The April 2012 catalog from Urban Outfitters has begun arriving in home mailboxes the last couple of days. On page two of this catalog is a picture of two women kissing in a face holding embrace. The ad and catalog are clearly geared towards teenagers.

Before your child has a chance to read the newest Urban Outfitters catalog call to unsubscribe from their mailing list at 1-800-282-2200, and then throw it away. When you call be sure to let them know why you are unsubscribing. Tell them you will also no longer shop at their stores if you hear this type of advertising continues. The content is offensive and inappropriate for a teen who is the company’s target customer.

The part that really gets me is how they describe it as “a picture of two women kissing in a face holding embrace.” As if there’s nothing more shocking and repulsive!

Ironically, Urban Outfitters itself has taken heat for its supposed anti-gay messaging. For example, the company at one point donated money to Rick Santorum, a move that prompted Miley Cyrus to tweet, “Every time you give them [Urban Outfitters] money you help finance a campaign against gay equality.” And in 2008, the retailer pulled its “I Support Same-Sex Marriage” t-shirts after receiving what I can only imagine to be an obscene amount of complaints.

If their latest catalog is any indication, it looks like Urban is back to supporting same-sex relationships. Hopefully they won’t be influenced by One Million Moms, an organization that as far as I’m concerned just breeds intolerance something I personally would never want to pass on to my children.
