Children’s Hospital Has Gigantic Pizza Party Because Sometimes The Internet Is Wonderful

photo 3The family of little Hazel Hammersley, a 2-year-old who is undergoing chemotherapy due to high-risk, stage 3 three neuroblastoma thought it would be funny to post a sign outside their hospital room that read ”Send Pizza RM 4112”³ and because some people are awesome, a Reddit user by the name of ”ashortstorylong” posted the photo to Reddit.

The sign was made by Hazel’s mom and grandma who try and think of fun and funny things they can do for Hazel while she is undergoing treatment. According to the blog for Hazel, her mom explains:

This sign was up for several days without even a single phone call asking to send up a pizza (which we completely expected!).  Then, on Saturday, it all changed.  Aaron had left the hospital, while my father-in-law stayed with Hazel, to go home and spend some time with me and our other children.  I would return later that night.  While at home, we began hearing news that several pizza’s were being delivered to the hospital.  After only a few short hours, we were told that someone had taken a picture on the street of our sign, had posted it to Reddit.com and it had reached #1!!  Then, someone ended up posting a link to our BlogFacebook, and Donation Page, which then all went bananas!  Hazel woke up from her nap to the smell of pizza and was so excited to chow down!  Several other children and nurses came into the room, with music playing, and had themselves a wonderful Pizza Party.  As of yesterday evening, there was more than 20 boxes delivered and more was coming!  We had such a great time!  However, due to the sheer number of pizzas and inquiries from the media, the hospital has asked that the pizza deliveries end and thank everyone for their support.

How awesome is that? Sometimes, people can be truly wonderful. I love the kindness of strangers. Especially when it helps small kids forget what a drag it must be staying in a hospital for a long time. Here’s hoping adorable little Hazel has a full recovery and many more days filled with fun surprises. Bless her.
