Gawker Reporter Unmasks Reddit ‘Creepshots’ Creator Violentacrez
Gawker reporter Adrian Chen has exposed the Reddit creator behind the moniker of Violentacrez who was notorious for creating the Reddit sections “Jailbait” and “Creepshots.” Reddit receives over 3 billion hits a month. President Obama has hosted a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” on the website . Owned by Condé Nast, Reddit is the best and worst of the internet. As a mom, I’m understandably offended and totally creeped out by certain Reddit sections. At least 40 percent of the content posted in “Creepshots” was of underage girls.Because of this guy’s extremely inappropriate content, his real life identity was outed, and even though I can have a slight sense of sympathy for the the man behind Violentacrez and how this will affect his life, because he is extremely unapologetic for being such a creep it makes it difficult to feel sorry for him. Creepshots isn’t the worst subreddit that Violentacrez created or moderated. Some of the the others include:
From the Gawker article:
The Violentacrez clan seems to have walked out of a Todd Solondz movie, and a significant part of Violentacrez’s mythos on Reddit comes from the details he’s shared about his family. In 2010, Violentacrez hosted a legendary “Ask Me Anything” thread”—the same Q & A feature Barack Obama took part in last month. He was asked what was the creepiest thing he’d done “IRL” and delighted readers with a tale ripped out of Penthouse letters. “That’d be a tough call,” Violentacrez wrote, “Perhaps oral sex with my 19-year-old stepdaughter.” It was completely consensual, he claimed in the post, and went on to brag about how awesome it had been in graphic detail. This happened over ten years ago, Violentacrez claimed. When his then-wife, the girl’s mother, found out, she “got mad, then got over it,” Violentacrez wrote. He says they were married for ten more years.
Off the internet, Violentacrez is a grandfather with a disabled wife, a son in the marines, two dogs and seven cats.
Both offline and online he could be either a creepy uncle, or a loyal friend and helpful guide. Violentacrez had a surprising number of friends on Reddit, for someone who once created an entire subreddit dedicated to pictures of dead teenage girls (Picsofdeadjailbait).
Violentacrez’s response to being outed by Gawker is this:
‘I do my job, go home watch TV, and go on the internet. I just like riling people up in my spare time.’
‘I would stand by exactly what I’ve done,’ he added.
The idea that people are taking photographs of our daughters and posting them on the Internet is enough to make me want to homeschool my kids and never let them leave my house. Even though people are getting angry about this and taking matters into their own hands as long as Reddit hosts threads like these that glorify the sexualization of children, violence against women and children, and extremely hateful and misogynistic content, people will continue to get angry. I don’t care about adults looking at pornography featuring adults. This isn’t a first amendment issue, it’s a human issue. It’s not free speech, it’s decency. A total creep who posted creepy content on the internet got busted for it. I think it’s about time.
