Racist Teacher Bashes Kids On Twitter, Unbelievably Manages To Keep Her Job

Good news, racists who enjoy death threats! Turns out you can totally post that shit on social media and still have a job teaching at Newark Memorial High School in California! Get those applications ready!

Teacher Krista Hodges used her Twitter account…not an anonymous one, but one with the name “Mrs. Hodges”…to post insulting, racist, and threatening statements about her students. What kid of statements, you ask? Well you’re in luck, because one of her fellow teachers, who was apparently sick of Hodges’s shit, collected six months of her tweets and gave them to the school’s principal and the local paper. Here are a few examples from The Oakland Tribune:

I already wanna stab some kids. Is that bad? 19 more days.

So happy to be done w/school for 10 days, but especially to be away from the ones who try my patience & make my trigger finger itchy.

Y’all think you can hate us as teachers? Guess what. We feel the same about some of you. We’re just not allowed to show it. #ISecretlyHateYou

Ya know what sucks the most about teaching summer school? The kids I can’t stand, who failed, will be in that class. #SummerRuined

She also made comments referring to some of her students with the slur “niggas.” Hodges admits that these are her tweets and the she behaved “unprofessionally” but also insists, as idiots who say awful things usually do, that she was “just joking.” In an e-mail to an Oakland Tribune reporter, she said:

I never expected anyone would take me seriously. If I had thought for one moment that someone would read anything I said on Twitter and take me seriously, you’d better believe I would have been much more careful with what I’ve said.

She also claims to be one of the best-loved teachers on campus. Normally, I would say that methinks maybe Mrs. Hodges suffers from an extreme lack of self-awareness, but based on Twitter posts from her students she seems to be sadly right about that.

 

 

In addition, replies to her former Twitter account show her to be a professional complainer, with Amazon, A&W Restaurants, the online game Bejeweled Blitz, Quiznos, and United Airlines (among many others) all tweeting her apologies for the poor service she has received. What I’m saying is, this is a woman who understand the power of social media and has been using it to publicly shame others for a long time.

So far you might be shocked by her actions but not surprised. After all, everyone is entitled to complain about their jobs, even teachers (though Twitter is not the place to do this, people.) Well, here’s the part that will leave you shocked, surprised, and disgusted: Hodges’ punishment for this behavior was a written reprimand.

Yes, Mrs. Hodges has been cleared to teach the students she has absolutely no respect for. If she had tweeted naked pictures, or talked about how much she loves weed, history says that she would have been terminated immediately. But a little racism? Eh. Cruel remarks aimed at her kids on a public social media platform?  We all make mistakes, I guess.

How is this even remotely possible? I have no idea. But I’ll bet the parents of her students are going to be thrilled to see her in their kids’ classroom.

Hodges has since deleted her Twitter account.
