Trouble In Transgender Paradise: ‘Pregnant Man’ Has Split From His Wife

Remember when Thomas Beatie was all over talk shows as the world’s first “pregnant man”? Sure you do. He was photographed all bearded and pregnant with even Oprah Winfrey rubbing his belly? Well, it turns out not all is perfect after gender reassignment surgery, as Beatie has separated from his wife, Nancy, after nine years of marriage and two children together.

Beatie announced the split on The Doctors, also revealing that he has had final female-to-male surgery. He added that his wife had “hasn’t seen the new me yet.” On the reasons for the split, Beatie just said a pretty general statement that for some married folks can evoke the “been there” sentiment:

“Like all marriages, we have our ups and downs, and we’re going through a rough patch right now. At the moment, we’re separated.”

No word yet on what Nancy or the couple’s three children are up to in the wake of the separation. But the news truly affirms that despite whatever transphobic narrative might follow Beatie and his family, they’re clearly going through the same domestic squabbles and marital hardships as everyone else.
