We all dream of packing up and heading out for an adventure sometimes, right? Just picking a destination and making our way there, come hell or high water. Not necessarily a family vacation, although those definitely have their perks! But a trip like we see in movies or on Instagram. Exotic location, minimal people, wide open itinerary. It’s a nice dream, one we have any least once a week (usually when our kids are grinding on our last nerve). But alas, picking up and heading off the beaten path in search of zen isn’t in the cards for most of us. That doesn’t mean, however, that we have to miss out on traveling. There’s so much world to see, and you should see as much of it as you can! If you’re brainstorming a trip in 2019, these Pinterest travel trends can help you plan the trip of a lifetime.

Pinterest has narrowed down some of the biggest travel trends for 2019, and every single one sounds amazing.

The virtual vision board is predicting some pretty travel trends for 2019. People want to travel, but they want to do it on the cheap, so look for bus travel to be big next year (searches for bus travel are up 32% on the site). Bike tours are also on everyone’s radar, which is the perfect way to see some of the unique and out-of-the-way towns that people are searching for (small town travel searches are up 276%!). It looks like travelers will also be thinking small in other ways in 2019. “Zero waste travel” is one of the hot travel trends, with people searching for sustainable packing, eating, and accommodation ideas.

In terms of location, travel trends for 2019 are all over the place (ha!).

If you’re looking for the perfect destination for your 2019 vacation, skip the popular spots and start looking off the beaten path. Searches for less traveled islands are up 179% (sorry, Maui), and travelers will be avoiding the tourist traps in favor of exploring abandoned castles. It looks like they’ll also be avoiding the stress of travel by visiting relaxing places like natural hot springs. Or you can tap into one of the craziest travel trends of 2019: get a group of friends together and keep the destination a surprise until you arrive – surprise travel is up by a whopping 192%! And fall looks to be the hot season next year, with more people seeking out places to peep some of that sweet, sweet foliage.

You certainly don’t have to follow all of these travel trends in 2019. But a few of them sound like they could result in a pretty memorable trip!
