Pink’s Toddler Went On A Bike Ride And The Internet Sanctiparents Freaked

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 4.41.35 PMSome images of Pink‘s husband Carey Hart hit the Internets this week and parents everywhere were not happy. The photos show Hart taking their toddler, Willow, on her first motorcycle ride. She wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Everyone knows that kids should wear helmets and probably shouldn’t be on a motorcycle. People make bad parenting decisions all the time – so I understand where the judgement comes from. But sometimes it helps to use a little critical thinking before you attack someone – especially when you are talking about how they care for their children.

”Been waiting for this day for a very long time,” wrote Hart on Instagram. ”Willz went for her 1st ride on my motorcycle around the pits today. She was pumped the whole time. When we stopped, she gave me a big hug and said it was fun, thank you Papa. That’s my girl.”

I think a professional bike racer who is clearly going so slow that he can hold onto his daughter with both hands knows how to handle her on a bike. They’re not on a freeway – or even a road inhabited by other drivers. They are on a dirt track. One look at this image makes it clear how slow they were going; everything in the frame is in the same focus – something that doesn’t quite happen when things are in fast motion. Yes, it would be safer if she were wearing a helmet. So if you have a huge problem with these images you should definitely not put your child on a motorcycle or let her ride anything without a helmet on.

It’s easy to point fingers and say “bad parent!” but it’s also easy to forget that it’s probably safe to assume no one loves this little girl more than her parents, right? If they aren’t concerned – why are you? Pink took to Twitter to defend her husband:

For the record, I would never let my kid on one of these things without a helmet. Thankfully, it’s my child and I get to make these decisions for him.
