Pet Raccoon Attacks Newborn Because Genius Mom Left Them Alone Together
A mom in Texas is facing potential charges after her pet raccoonmauled her 2-week-old newborn son. Police were called to the home of 19-year-old mom Brittany Darby after she placed a 911 call. According to 12 News Now Darby was holding the baby when they arrived, and paramedics claim that the child was bleeding profusely from scratches on his left eye and face.
The baby’s injuries were severe enough that he was flown to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston where he was kept for two days for treatment before being released. The raccoon and another raccoon were both euthanized at the scene. According to 12 New Now, the animals were kept without a permit or license, which is necessary in order to keep raccoons as pets. Not only that, but according to police reports the baby was left ALONE in the home with the raccoons. Darby’s boyfriend apparently heard the child screaming and found one of them “slapping the baby in the face.” Thankfully both animals tested negative for rabies.
Now, you’d think that the family of this genius would be embarrassed, but you’d be wrong, my friend. When asked by local reporters about the incident, they were combative:
“Go talk to the game warden. Ask him why dogs are running around, but domesticated animals no more harmful than a baby itself was killed.”
Um, because you can’t fully domesticate a wild animal, and sorry, but I highly doubt someone dumb enough to leave their baby alone with raccoons is smart enough to train them in any way.
