Paula Deen Bails Out Of Today Show Because She Is Too Exhausted To Talk About What A Racist She Is
Do you know what’s more exhausting than frying butter, hiding your diabetes and subsequently profiting off pharmaceuticals that treat the ills your famous food causes? Trying to pretend you aren’t a racist. That is super tiring. Just ask Paula Deen. She bailed out of what was supposed to be an exclusive Today Show interview this morning about her alleged use of racial slurs. She cancelled at the last minute due to “exhaustion.” I bet Matt Lauer is pissed.
CBS News reports:
“Today” host Matt Lauer told viewers he had spoken with Deen the day before to arrange what NBC had promoted as an exclusive, live appearance.
But shortly before the show went on the air Friday, Lauer said he was told by a Deen representative that she was pulling out. The rep told him Deen was “exhausted.”
Deen and her brother are being sued by a former manager of their restaurant Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House in Savannah, Georgia. In the lawsuit, Lisa Jackson claims she was constantly subjected to racist language and that Deen’s brother, Earl “Bubba” Biers “would frequently bring pornography to work and physically assaulted her on several occasions.”
When asked about the racist language, pretty much everyone in the world was probably expecting lovable-old-Paula to say something like, “No way! I would never use that type of language! I am offended.” Nope. When asked if she ever used the “n-word,” she responded, “Yes, of course.” Wow. Really? In addition to that, Jackson claims she was approached by Paula who pitched staging a “true Southern wedding” with an all-black waitstaff:
”Well what I would really like is a bunch of little n””s to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around.” Paula Deen laughed and said ”Now that would be a true southern wedding, wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.”
As if that isn’t enough to make your stomach turn, Jackson also claims that black staff members are required to use the restaurant’s rear bathrooms, while the white servers are allowed to use the customer’s rest rooms. Oh. My. God.
I’m not surprised that she bailed on her appearance. What could she possibly say to make this better for herself? I’m going to go with, nothing. I was disgusted by Deen when I found out she was suffering with a disease that her famous-for-being-fattening food causes. She kept her diabetes a secret, while pushing the food that probably made her sick in the first place. When she finally came clean with it – we learned that she was becoming the poster girl for pharmaceuticals that treat the condition – profiting off of a diabetes drug. Hmm. Too hear her being so flippant about the fact that she used hate speech unfortunately doesn’t surprise me. The woman has no integrity.
Clearly, being a racist comes easy. Trying to pretend that you’re not is exhausting. I’ll be looking forward to your interview, Paula.
