‘We Don’t Need Another Black President’ Says White Teacher To Black Student

200443854-001Part of a teacher’s job is to encourage and motivate students, but one teacher in Ohio didn’t seem to get the memo. He’s been suspended without pay and may be dismissed for allegedly telling a black student, “We don’t need another black president.”

Science teacher Gil Voigt allegedly made the statement in response to one of his black students telling him he wanted to be president. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, “Voigt said his statement was misquoted by the student, who he said was not a very good student and was troublesome in class.”

This isn’t the first time Voigt has landed in trouble for improper behavior:

He received a verbal warning for making an inappropriate racial comment in 2008. That year he also received a verbal warning for improper use of school technology.

Last year he received a verbal warning after allegedly calling a student ”stupid” and belittling him. He received a written warning last month for failure to use the adopted curriculum.

Okay, so he’s a racist and a bully who has a problem following orders. Why does he still have a job?

Sorry, but I don’t think you can give people in charge of teaching children a pass when it comes to racist statements. I know teachers aren’t perfect, but to model racist behavior and get away with it sends some really damaging messages kids. We don’t need another black president? That he would have a job after saying something so blatantly racist is unacceptable – especially since he appears to be a repeat offender.

Four other students have corroborated the teens story. Voigt has 10 days to request a hearing before the school board.
