Daycare Worker Charged With Adding Benadryl Sprinkles To Cupcakes But She Says JK shutterstock 26683570 1371552833 74 134 205 46 147x200 jpgA daycare worker in Ohio has been charged with drugging delicious, delicious cupcakes to get the children in her daycare to sleep during the day but she says it was all a total joke and that she was just kidding. This story involves two of my all time favorite things, which are cupcakes and naps, but dude, if this woman was joking she needs to realize it’s totally not funny and she could end up in a whole heap of trouble. According to Fox News:

Tammy Eppley was charged in Franklin County Municipal Court with six counts of child endangering after police in suburban Westerville say they obtained text messages in which she admits giving children the allergy drug Benadryl and Melatonin, a hormone and sleep aid.

“Tammy was bragging about how they were all perfectly still and being quiet or asleep,” said a police report describing a video Eppley allegedly recorded on her cellphone and sent a friend.

“Tammy jokes about one of the children almost discovering her actions by remarking that the sprinkles on some cupcakes tasted funny,” according to the report obtained by The Associated Press through a records request.

This story gets even more confusing because according to the report she said she drugged certain kids because the parents gave her permission. I don’t know about you all, but this seems pr-eeeeeeety fishy to me because I can’t even imagine how this conversation went down:

Tammy: Little Timmy here sure doesn’t like napping. Have you ever considered drugging his pancakes or juice with a mess of Benadryl in order to solve this little problem?

Parent: Hey this sounds like an excellent idea you go ahead and drug my kid you are the best caregiver ever!!!11!!!!!11!!!one!!elventy

According to the report:

Eppley is also accused of mixing crushed Benadryl into pancake batter and juice for the children at her daycare, Caterpillar Clubhouse, Westerville police Det. Richard Tiburzio said in an interview Monday.

Oh man I know drugging kids is no laughing matter but she is gonna have to change her daycare name to THE VERY SLEEPY CATERPILLAR CLUBHOUSE amirate?

Eppley, 37, denied the charges in a phone interview, saying Tiburzio was “obsessed” with pursing the charges against her. She said she did provide drugs to children but only after getting permission from their parents.

She acknowledged making light of giving the drugs in text messages to a friend but said they were jokes.

Eppley described the comments as “very tongue-in-cheek.”

“It was, `Good grief, I wish these kids would go to sleep, I wish I could drug them,”‘ she said.

“I do regret making that comment, obviously,” she said. “It was not, `I did it.”‘

We all know daycare is expensive and it’s so hard to find someone you trust enough to care for your kids. Daycare is a huge problem for parents and as much as I appreciate someone mouthing off and making a joke at the expense of children, if I were a parent with a kid in this daycare I’d be pretty upset. Plus, what about Tammy’s friend who totally ratted her out? Even if this story turns out to be so not true and Tammy was all JK about it her and this friend are probably not going to hit the bars for karaoke night or buy each other BFF friendship necklaces any time soon.
