Just One More Reason To Hate Nadya Suleman: Octomom Charged With Welfare Fraud

By  |

Octomom-Nadya-SulemanOctomom is at it again. If Nadya Suleman, a.k.a. Octomom, were a superhero, her powers would be single-handedly destroying the porn industry and taking down the government at the same time. Go, Octomom!

Suleman’s latest shenanigans involve a charge of welfare fraud after neglecting to report nearly $30,000 in earnings. Octomom received her infamous moniker after conceiving and birthing octuplets via IVF. This brought her total child count to a whopping 14, which shouldn’t have been anyone’s business—until Suleman applied for public assistance in January 2013.

But Octomom made one fatal mistake. (Just one?) Suleman reportedly “did not disclose she was getting paid for personal appearances and residuals from videos she has appeared in.” This extra boost in income went unreported from January 1 to June 30, 2013.

Just a year after applying for public assistance to support her 14 children, Suleman was officially charged on January 6, 2014, with three counts of alleged welfare fraud. This breaks down into two counts of perjury by false application for aid and one count of receiving government aid by misrepresentation.

If I could say one thing to Suleman, it would be this: Come on, Octomom! What are you thinking?

Not only did she take on the responsibility of mothering 14 children—which makes my head spin—but she purposely made a poor decision when it came to the well-being of her entire family. If Octomom is convicted of this crime, prosecutors say that she could face more than five years in custody.

I’ve seen Suleman try to defend herself and her strange choices on a number of news programs and talk shows, including Dr. Phil. The Octomom I saw on Dr. Phil came on to discuss the latest “scandal” behind her creepy ass porn video. To make matters worse, she was criticized for her appearance by looking and acting as if she was under the influence of drugs—read: a vacant, glazed over expression on her face throughout the entire interview.

From what I have seen in the media, Octomom isn’t doing herself any favors. Suleman has also had several visits from CPS regarding the improper care of her children. No child welfare charges have been brought against her so far.

Octomom has made it a point to put herself in the eye of the media—partially as a way to promote her brand and make money off her strange reputation. In my opinion, this leaves her open to criticism. If Suleman’s kids don’t get taken from her now, it doesn’t seem like it will be long before they are removed from her care. Octomom clearly sucks, but I feel for her children.

Who are we to judge Octomom? If she wants to IVF a 1000 kids, let her. God bless her.

Translation for the rational: If she can financially, emotionally, and physically support 1000 kids, let her. Otherwise, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The Duggars come to mind. While I personally think it’s no bueno to have 20 kids. My understanding is they are not in any way receiving assistance (except the giant paycheck from TLC or whoever) and never have. In which case, I still say not for me, but party on. They’ve apparently managed to set it up that their children wouldn’t be on assistance in the event of the parents deaths so…if that’s accurate do your thing. Octomom…not so much.

      Who are we? Um, taxpayers?
I was on welfare briefly when my daughter was an infant, and you better believe I reported every penny I managed to scrape together (because welfare doesn’t actually provide enough to live on).

We’re people who are paying to support her, who will be paying when her shitty parenting results in kids who enter the foster system, and the prison system. We’re also people who care about people who need assistance getting it, which is made harder by people committing fraud.

Exactly. This is just more fodder for the whole “welfare queen” idea that women pop out tons of babies just to get a check, and it also simultaneously reinforces the misconception that people are dishonest and lazy. At the end of it, she’s going to be a poster child for why welfare is a broken system, and the people who really need it will wind up being hurt.

Ugh, of course she can have as many kids as she wants! That’s the not the issue. She’s not allowed to lie to the government in order to scam money. No one is.

Woman has issues, clearly, and for that I feel for her, but she seriously needs to get her shit together. I would pay a dollar to get her a reality show that teaches her actual career skills, parenting skills, and provides extensive therapy for the lot of them.

I’m sure with 14 kids, the extra $30K wasn’t enough to take care of her children’s needs which is why she felt the need to apply for welfare. I’m sure she loves her kids and wants what is best but is obviously not stable enough to make the best decisions.

Does that mean her children should be split up into foster homes while she sits in prison? No. They would probably be better off together because God only knows what would happen to those kids in foster care.

Its a sad situation because she obviously didn’t know what she was getting herself into but now that she’s in it she’s desperate, not necessarily a scam artist. Is it fair taxpayers should have to pay for someone’s 14 kids? No. But there are a lot of people that have children that they know they can’t take care of and make no effort to financially support them but shame on anyone that tries to preach personal responsibility.

It sucks all around and I hope the kids turn out OK.
