NRA Waits A Week After Sandy Hook Shootings To Propose That We Get More Guns In American Schools

shutterstock_60310993In the days following the Sandy Hook shooting, marked by the mourning of a nation and the funerals of many children, the NRA has been awfully quiet. But today, exactly a week following the deadliest school shooting in American history, the organization has broken their silence with a plan for safety that involves more guns in our schools. Oh yes, you absolutely read that correctly.

In a deplorable statement following the murder of 20 children and six adults, the nation’s largest gun-rights lobby called for armed police officers at every American school. Wayne LaPierre, the NRA’s executive vice president, says that the organization would like to develop that gun happy safety program for you and your kids — a model school shield program — with experts at the helm, like Rep. Asa Hutchinson. LaPierre noted:

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

In between a couple of anti-NRA protesters being removed from the press conference (but more like press statement), LaPierre elaborated that each school should be permitted to tailor said school shield program to accommodate their own circumstances. But make no mistake, an armed guard is absolutely part of that plan. He called upon Congress “to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school in this nation.”

LaPierre did take a moment to address all that obligatory violent videos games and movie talk, comparing “blood-soaked films” to pornography and decrying them as entertainment. He scolded the American media for glorifying gunmen like Adam Lanza who now occupy a chilling part of our nation’s history, but then also shook a naughty finger at those who have vilified gun owners:

”Since when did the gun automatically become a bad word?” Mr. LaPierre asked.

When Hutchinson took to the podium, he explained that the NRA was the go to choice to sponsor this “let’s get more guns in our schools” safety program, which, by the way, will be guided by independent experts.

Both gentlemen refused to answer questions following their suggestion that we become nothing short of a military dictatorship in response to the Sandy Hook tragedy.

LaPierre said that the organization has been keeping mum these last days out of respect for the families of the Sandy Hook victims. But now that the NRA has chosen the week anniversary of such a massacre to essentially make a call for even more guns, “respect” is not the word that comes to mind.

Are you looking into homeschooling yet?

UPDATE: While the NRA was making the case for more guns in our schools and creating a database of the mentally ill, a mass shooting in Pennsylvania was happening.
