Mother Gives Baby a Dildo Instead of a Teether, Shocked When People Don’t Like That

A new mother is being investigated by authorities after making the questionable decision to put a dildo in her baby’s mouth instead of a teether. She even put a video of her baby chewing a dildo on the Internet and was shocked by the resulting outrage.

30-year-old Ekaterina Karimova, from Moscow, defended her actions online. She says she was told to give her teething baby little silicone toys to chew on to ease his gum pain. Instead of going to pick up a teether–or using the pacifiers her son already had–she decided to hand him one of her dildos to chew on.

“Aha!” she thought. “I have a little silicone toy already.”

So she took out a dildo and gave it to her baby. She was so pleased with herself that she posted photos online of the baby holding the dildo, and of the dildo wrapped in a condom and in the baby’s mouth.

Before this story came out, I thought I was the most permissive, “Oh, whatever” sort of parent in the world. If Karimova had given the kid a dog toy to chew on, I wouldn’t have blinked–assuming the dog toy was brand new, of course. (I maintain there is no real difference between Sophie the Giraffe and a dog toy.) But a dildo can’t possibly be the most convenient teether she had access to. A pacifier was right there in the baby’s crib!

Also, the choice to put it on the Internet definitely feels like she thought, “I bet this will get me some attention!”

Is it new?

The “is it new?” issue also comes into play here. Karimova did not specify whether the dildo was new or used, but if it were sitting around her house, it seems like it’s probably not new, right?

Honestly, the condom concerns me more than the dildo. Balloons are one of the most common non-food objects children choke on. Using a condom seems like a choking hazard, because the baby could pull it off. If a balloon gets caught in the windpipe, you can’t just Heimlich it out, because that just inflates the balloon.

Also, the fact that she put a condom on the dildo makes me think it was not new, and that’s just foul. Sex education experts are constantly telling us not to share used sex toys with different partners. They certainly wouldn’t recommend putting one in a baby’s mouth.

Somehow the outrage surprised her.

Karimova thinks this is not a big deal. Commenters on her social media accounts called her an idiot and said the child should be taken away. Somehow, she seems surprised. Karimova posted before about how her son was an accident. She said she “got knocked up” and that she had trouble bonding with him. She said he doesn’t look like her, and she has said she doesn’t have strong feelings for him.

Then the Russian authorities got involved, and according to The Mirror they really did take the baby away. Police are investigating Karimova, and she faces a court case if she wants to retain her parental rights.
