Before You Name That New Baby, Check Out the Most Popular Baby Names in Every State
Teachers of America, get ready to see a ton of Emmas, Mias, and Olivias in your classrooms in the coming years. The Social Security Administration has released its list of the most popular baby names registered in 2016, and it sure looks like everybody likes some classy, old-timey baby names this year.
There is some variation among states, though. Mia was the most popular name for baby girls in California, but Olivia was the most popular one in Colorado. Everybody likes Emma, though. And nobody has ever banned people from naming their babies Emma.
“Live Free or Die” New Hampshire broke ranks with the rest of the country and picked Charlotte as its top baby name for girls. (Emma was second place in New Hampshire.)
As for the boys, the names Noah and Liam reigned supreme. (Somewhere out there, Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis probably think this is all about them.)
