Mom Of Baby No. 59 From Chinese Sewer Continues To Have A Super Sketchy Story

sewer baby 3There is some good news to report about Baby No. 59, the baby who was rescued from a sewer pipe a few days ago in Jinhua, China. He has now been released from the hospital and is residing with his maternal grandparents. Whether this is a good idea, I suppose, only time will tell.

The police are currently labeling the incident an accident, and so far they seem to believe the 22-year-old mother’s account of how her son ended up where he did. According to the vice director of police, Jian Song:

“That day she felt stomachaches. So she went to the toilet. It was actually close to her due date and the baby just slid out.”

According to CNN, an unnamed police officer only identified as “Fang” told reporters that the mother had broken up with her boyfriend about six months ago. It’s unclear if this is the father of the boy or not. We originally learned that he was conceived after a one night stand.

Police have already identified the man that they feel is the father (they don’t mention whether it’s the boyfriend or another man) and are awaiting paternity tests. The mother reportedly wanted an abortion but was unable to pay for one.

When the police questioned the mother, she told them she had no intention of dropping her child into the toilet. She allegedly tried to retrieve him with a stick (really?) and tried to flush the toilet only to clear the blood away.

The police seem to believe her story but I don’t think I do.
