FX Announces ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spin-Off Called ‘Mayans MC’
Get ready, Sons of Anarchy fans! FX has announced a spin-off of the popular show, scheduled to premiere in late summer. Mayans MC will get a 10-episode run on the network. Given the immense popularity of SoA, it seems like a slam dunk.
Mayans MC will follow fresh-out-of-prison EZ Reyes. Reyes is a former golden boy and new prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California-Mexico border.
Fans of SoA may remember (and still be crying over) the death of Jax Teller at the end of the series. So, there won’t be any scenes with a shirtless Charlie Hunnam. But we’re sure the writers have cooked up plenty of suspense and drama to keep it on par with the original.
In addition to JD Pardo in the lead role, Mayans MC will feature a great cast. Edward James Olmos plays EZ’s father. John Ortiz and Clayton Cardenas are also slated to star. Pardo is known for his roles in East Los High, Revolution, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.
Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, creators of Sons of Anarchy, are taking the reigns of the new show. The drama will center on Reyes as he seeks vengeance for the cartel violence that ripped his Latino American family apart. Given the popularity of SoA and other shows like Breaking Bad and Narcos, it sounds like Sutter and James have another hit on their hands.
At this point, Mayans MC is only green-lit for a 10-episode season. However, it seems likely that FX could order more episodes if fans respond in the same way to the show that they did to the original.
Are you a Sons of Anarchy fan who’s been looking for your next show? How excited are you for Mayans MC (even without Jax)?
