Khloe Kardashian Apparently Has Sole Custody of True Thompson

Well, this is certainly interesting! Last week, Khloe Kardashian gave birth to her first baby, a little girl named True Thompson. Khloe was living in Cleveland when she had True, because her boyfriend and baby daddy Tristan Thompson plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now, given the news that’s been coming out about Tristan, it’s hard to say what the status of their relationship is at the moment. Just a couple of days before True was born, Tristan was outed as a serial cheater. Video surveillance and photos showed him kissing and canoodling with several women who were most definitely not his very pregnant girlfriend. Khloe obviously had other things to deal with, like childbirth, so who knows what’s going to happen with the couple. Now we’ve learned that child custody laws in Ohio are pretty squarely in Khloe’s corner, should things not … work out.

When Khloe Kardashian moved to Cleveland to be with Tristan, it was assumed she would give birth there when the time came.

Sources say Khloe always intended to stay in Cleveland and raise True with Tristan. But recent developments may have thrown as monkey wrench in that plan. However, it turns out that delivering in Ohio might play out in Khloe’s favor anyway.

Ohio child custody laws state that if a child is born to an unmarried couple, the mother is automatically granted sole custody.

After the child is born, the onus is on the father to file with the court to establish paternity. The father would also have to file for shared custody, parenting rights, and visitation. Ohio law recognizes the father as an equal parent. But it does not automatically grant the father equal parental rights if the couple is unmarried.

But, sources say Khloe and True are prepping to return to Los Angeles as soon as it’s safe to do so. Tristan was present at True’s birth, and has been spending plenty of time with her and Khloe. But Khloe apparently wants to be back with her family. Which makes a lot of sense, if the future of her relationship with Tristan is up in the air. So should they move, the state of California would assume jurisdiction over custody.

Whatever happens, we hope Khloe and Tristan are able to work together as co-parents. And we sincerely hope Tristan is a better father than he is a partner.
