Katherine Heigl: ‘I Think Adoption Should Be On Everybody’s Mind’

Katherine Heigl and Josh KelleyKatherine Heigl adopted her daughter Naleigh with husband Josh Kelley a couple of years ago from South Korea, and the Knocked Up actress has since found the experience of adopting to be “very rewarding.” The comedic blonde also comes from an adoptive family herself, as her parents adopted her older sister Meg from South Korea.

Katherine recently sat down with Meg, along with another adoptive mom Denise Richards, to raise awareness about the many children in need of homes. Regarding her own experiences as an adoptive parent, Katherine told ET Online:

“I think it’s so rewarding for everybody and it’s just so amazing to become a parent no matter how you become one,” explained Katherine.

“I have this amazing, beautiful daughter in my life that I wouldn’t have had otherwise and I have this amazing wonderful beautiful sister in my life that I wouldn’t have had otherwise so I think adoption should be on everybody’s mind and people should be a little more open to it.”

Katherine also addressed the canned responses that often come up for adoptive parents, as she recites the usual “oh, that’s so nice of you to do that for that child.” The actress reminds audiences that adopting a child can be a mutually rewarding experience for all parties regardless of expectations of sainthood.
