Kate Winslet Saves Richard Branson’s Mother From Fire

When Virgin Group head honcho Richard Branson‘s private Caribbean island home went up in flames on Monday, it was Kate Winslet a guest of Branson’s who helped rescue Branson’s elderly mother.

Branson wrote in his blog that a tropical storm hit the island and at 4 a.m. lightning struck the house. “My son Sam and nephew Jack rushed to the house and helped get everyone out,” he explains. “Many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry my 90 year old mum out of the main house to safety she was wondering when a Director was going to shout CUT!”

Indeed it’s a scene straight out of a movie but this is very much real life. And Winslet is rightfully being touted as a hero for helping to save a life. Our hats go off to her; not only did she perform this brave act, she’s declining to comment publicly, which in our books makes her all class.

Winslet’s children, 10-year-old Mia and 7-year-old Joe, were also staying in the house when it caught fire. Thankfully they escaped unharmed as did everyone on the island and Branson called them “two of the bravest kids I’ve ever come across.” They are no doubt proud of their mom, whose maternal instincts must’ve kicked in big-time. That’s the thing about having kids: you suddenly want to protect everyone, everywhere, all of the time.
