Jillian Michaels Admits That Working Out Isn’t The Easiest Thing To Do When You Are A Parent

shutterstock_127454198Jillian Michaels has made a career out of telling people how fat they are and shaming them into submission. Okay, so that’s one interpretation. She’s also helped a hell of a lot of people find a healthier way to live – and lose a ton of weight in the process. Anyone who watches the show has seen her rip into overweight parents for not making enough time to work out. But it seems now that she has children of her own, she’s beginning to realize how difficult it can be. Jillian Michaels admits parenting struggles may interfere with total fitness devotion. Hell just froze over. From an interview with She Knows:

”I used to say, ”˜If you’re going to exercise, then you do it, and you do it 100 percent.’ Now if I’ve got to answer e-mails while I work out on the StairMaster, well, then that’s what it is. People can rub my nose in it, because it is so hard ”” so hard ”” to take care of yourself when you’re a parent,” Michaels told the magazine.

I think she just became one of my favorite people, ever. It takes a lot of guts to build a career on your convictions, realize that those convictions may change with the circumstances of your life, and make a public declaration that you may have been wrong:

She went on to explain: ”At the end of the day, I come home, and I’m like, ”˜OK, let me bathe you, change you, feed you, read you books, put you to bed.’ Wait, how am I supposed to do all this? Son of a bitch, this is hard.”

Sorry, but I do happen to be one of those people that believes that you can’t truly know what a juggling act caring for another human being is until you have to. And I’m not just talking about moms. I’m talking about those responsible for siblings, aging parents – any situation where you have to put someone else’s needs before your own is difficult. There just really isn’t as much time in the day for your own needs – like religiously working out. Yes, you can make time for the gym – but the kind of fitness devotion Jillian Michaels is infamous for demanding from her trainees is just not realistic in the day-to-day lives of parents.

Thanks for sort of admitting it, Jillian.
