TLC Cancels ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Over Mama June’s Rage-Inducing Decision To Date A Child Molester

here-comes-honey-boo-booTLC has cancelled popular reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo in light of the recent allegations that the show’s matriarch is dating a convicted child molester. I have a renewed faith in reality TV.

TMZ broke the news yesterday that June Shannon was seen with her ex-boyfriend — a convicted child molester.  Mark McDaniel was convicted for aggravated child molestation in 2004, after forcing oral sex on an eight-year-old. If that isn’t horrifying enough, June Shannon was dating him at the time and the victim was allegedly one of her relatives. My brain can barely comprehend the horror of this.

Shannon has denied seeing McDaniel, but a photo of the two together that TMZ published yesterday obviously concerned the network enough to end the show. They have already taped the next season, but will not air the episodes. Shannon has allegedly been dating McDaniel since he got out of prison last March. It’s refreshing to see a network take a financial hit to do the right thing. Representatives for TLC told TMZ, “Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children‘s ongoing comfort and well-being.” The network is said to be paying for tutors and counselors for the children.

I think it’s great that the network is stepping up, but pretty terrible that the only reason this has to be done is due to a massive parental fail. So much for the college funds and money for the future that Mama June was allegedly very good about saving. I hope she really was – as it seems a pretty horrific decision has brought that gravy train to an end.

This is so sad for the children who will eventually have to digest this news. When I covered the story yesterday there were many saying they felt bad for Mama June. I just can’t share in that pity. Child molestation is an unforgivable offense. The only proper reaction to this monster who molested a family member would be to steer clear of him and definitely keep him away from your children.
