Get Over Yourself, Kate Gosselin!

I used to love Kate Gosselin. I know it’s one of those things you’re not supposed to admit but, what can I say? I was a fan of Jon & Kate Plus 8 back in 2007, when it first aired. I could never relate to Kate personally I had just one kid at the time and, well, I cut my one-year maternity leave short because I was going batty being at home all day (plus, her hairstyle was always atrocious). Nonetheless, I was obsessed with every aspect of the show from how they handled mealtime, bedtime and dentist appointments to the fact that Kate and her now-ex, Jon Gosselin, still managed to sort of like each other amid the utter chaos. And the kids! Damn cute, those kids.

Then things took a turn for the worse. Kate went all Hollywood; she dyed her hair and bleached her teeth (she went from frumpy to trashy the former suited her much better). She started bossing Jon around (they are now divorced) and accepting one too many freebies (like all-inclusive trips to Hawaii) and, finally, pulling major diva moves (like losing her shit on Ashely the babysitter for messing up Steve the bodyguard’s dinner order). Oh, and then there’s that whole issue of, you know, exploiting her children and all.

But one of the Kate Gosselin’s worst “moments” to date happened this very morning on the Today show with host Matt Lauer. Kate appeared on the show to promote the final episode of her once-popular reality series, Kate Plus 8. She’s talked about her devastation about the series coming to an end: for herself, her fans and her children. “I feel sad for my kids because of all the opportunities that they’re now questioning,” she said. “[The show] has been the start essentially of my career and my job and the way I’ve been providing for my kids for six years. And so, you now, it is a little scary.”

Then she went on to trash her ex-husband Jon the father of her children! on national television. You see, Jon is actually happy that his children will be out of the limelight and that perhaps they can beginning having a “normal” life. But that doesn’t quite work for Kate, who had this to say: “Jon may be accepting of mediocre for his kids, and working a regular job… [but] I want the best for my kids and the best opportunities.”

That’s a low blow if I’ve ever heard one. Every good parent knows not to bash the ex in front of the kids never mind in front of thousands or maybe even millions of viewers. But her comment also hit a nerve with working moms everywhere you know, the ones working “regular” jobs and creating mediocre lives for their families. Really, I think that all of that hair bleach must’ve seeped into her brain because this woman is not thinking clearly.

In the meantime, today also marks the launch of Kate’s new website, which will keep us abreast of “all things Kate Gosselin & Kids” (there’s even a section called “Kate + Rumors”). And speaking of Kate’s online presence, she has been Tweeting up a storm in response to those who questioned her Today show comment earlier today.

2clarify re ‘mediocre’ – I meant this job is not a career acc 2 jon but tv is 4 me & is hard but will prov best opps 4 my kids vs nursing!

I don’t really get it, but, whatever. I am officially over Kate Gosselin.
