Sticking to the Same Foods Everyday Might Help You Lose Weight

“You need to try new foods, you can’t just eat the same thing everyday!” I say this to my kids at least four times a week. And when it comes to developing a child’s palate, this definitely rings true! But for us olds, trying news foods all the time might be keeping us from hitting those weight loss goals. Eating the same foods everyday might help you shed those extra pounds, even if it can get a little boring.

We’re told that variety is the spice of life. But when it comes to our diet, eating the same foods everyday does have some benefits.

First of all, it’s so much easier in terms of meal planning and prep. If you know exactly what you’ll eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, eventually you’re going to get shopping and preparation down to a science. This is so helpful, especially during these crazy back to school and life days! Think about it: no more trying to figure out what to make for dinner after a long day spent at work and shuttling kids around. You can theoretically get your full week prepped and in the fridge or freezer on Sunday! Meal planning is kind of the worst, so this alone is a reason to stick to eating the same foods everyday.

Eating the same foods everyday also helps you keep those calories in check.

No more wondering what this meal or that meal is going to cost you at the gym. If you’re sticking to the same foods, there’s no guess work, no calculations, and no balancing out your meals for the rest of the day to make up for it. Again, when life gets busy but you want to stay on track with your weight loss goals, this can be crucial! Plus math is hard, so the less math you have to do on a daily basis, the better.

It can also help you establish healthy eating habits, and stick to them!

Ugh, making good choices is the worst part of being an adult. If you have a hard time figuring out how to stay on your healthy eating kick with too many options available to you, eliminate those options. And habits are easy to establish when you do them more often. It becomes less of a conscious choice, and more of a “so this is just how I do it now” kind of thing.

Eating the same foods everyday saves you from that dinner panic.

We’ve all been there: you’re on your way home from a long day, and you know that once you get there you’re going to have to make dinner. How many times do we say screw it and hit the drive thru to save us that kitchen work? Or order delivery because you just don’t want to deal with trying to figure out what to make? If you stick to the same foods, you don’t have to worry about that. Remember, you prepped all your meals for the week three days ago! YOU ARE WINNING AT LIFE!

When it comes to feeding your kids, suuuuuuure we want them to try new foods. But you know what? We’re also tired of fighting about it.

Kids develop habits the same way we do, so if they’re given the same choices day in and day out, those are going to become normal for them. Create healthy, balanced meals that check all the nutrition boxes, and keep offering your kids these same meals. Eventually, they’re going to come around, and they’ll be more likely to eat what you make when they know what’s coming. Kids only like surprises when it comes to trips to Disneyland or new puppies.

Sure, it might get a little mundane. But eating the same foods everyday has its perks! You’ll make your life easier and less stressful, you’ll make better choices, and you’ll stay on track with your weight loss goals.
