Shut Down Pinterest, This Mom’s Amazing Wheelchair Costumes Just Won Halloween

It’s a sad day for the competitive moms of Pinterest, because this little boy’s mother has out-crafted any mom in town with her amazing handmade Halloween costumes.

Cassie McLelland told The Huffington Post that she has been making her 9-year-old son Caleb’s Halloween costumes for years. Her work is extremely creative and impressive, because where most people would just slap a Batman mask on their kids, McLelland actually built a whole Batmobile for him.

Caleb has spina bifida and is in a wheelchair, and every year McLelland outfits Caleb’s chair with something cool, like a Batmobile or a Mario Kart or even Superman flying through the clouds:

In addition to being Halloween month, October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month, and McLelland’s Wheelchair Costumes blog is a way for her to show people what spina bifida looks like and that children and adults with it live full, normal, happy lives.

“I think people assume that our lives are hard all the time,” she said. “I think people assume that our lives are somehow abnormal compared to everyone else. I think people assume that our lives revolve around Caleb and Spina Bifida, that SB consumes our lives. It doesn’t. Spina Bifida is part of our life, but it isn’t our life.”

McLelland says the costumes are actually pretty easy to do, though they do not look it.

“I know they look elaborate but honestly my only tools are a hot glue gun and some cardboard. Anyone can do it and many do. I see more and more wheelchair costumes every single year. It’s wonderful,” McLelland said.

There are tons more adorable costumes on Caleb and other children over on Wheelchair Costumes.
