Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Reveals Baby Daughter’s Name

Following a relatively low-profile pregnancy, French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy finally gave birth last night to a healthy baby girl with husband Nicolas Sarkozy. In a message on her website, the Italian-born singer and former model expressed her thanks for the many messages of congratulations she’s received so far and then revealed the baby’s name.

It’s Giulia. Cute, non? I’m assuming that it’s pronounced Julia for us foreigners, but I can’t be sure. Either way, the baby girl is fifth child to join the Bruni-Sarkozy clan (Bruni has a 10-year-old son from a previous relationship and the President has three sons from two previous marriages). And she’s the first infant in modern history to be born to French presidential couple in office.

While the couple has revealed Giulia’s name, don’t expect to see any pictures of their little bundle any time soon. Just last month, Bruni-Sarkozy said in an interview that she will not be exposing her child to any sort of press. “You don’t have a child for the gallery,” she told TF1 television. “I will do everything to protect this infant and I’ll be absolutely rigorous. I will never show photos of this child, I will never expose this child.”
