Parents Pay $1000 Or More For Bugaboo Strollers Only To Have Fancy Units Recalled

bugaboo donkeyIt’s been a rough couple of years for super luxurious, wildly expensive strollers. Maclaren, one of the most pricey manufacturers on the market, filed for bankruptcy. And now, Bugaboo, the other high-profile ultra-stroller producer has issued their second recall in two years.

Back in October of 2011, we learned that Bugaboo strollers were not perfect. The Bugaboo Bee had a problem with locking wheels, leading to a company recall of the faulty strollers.

Now, two new models have reported issues that necessitate a recall of more than 40,000 strollers. The Bugaboo Cameleon, which retails for approximately $980, and the Bugaboo Donkey, which has a ridiculous name and costs anywhere from $1200 to $1600, both have a faulty handle on the detachable carry seat. There are obvious falling and choking hazards due to the malfunction.

So far, the company has received 58 complaints of the handles detaching, though thankfully no injuries have been reported. Now, customers who dropped major money to keep their kids safe have to send in for a new part from the company that will hopefully solve the problem.

Personally, I’m not the kind of person who would spend $1000 or more on a stroller. Granted, I don’t live in a major city where walking is our primary means of transportation. That being said, if I had shelled out this much for a fancy Bugaboo, I would be more than a little furious that something as basic as the handle to carry your kids was faulty.

Bugaboo is attempting to calm their likely frustrated customers with a detailed explanation of what’s going on, what customers need to do and how they’re fixing the problem. Their website has loads of information. The one thing it’s missing though? An apology. Or any real responsibility or guilt for selling people thousand-dollar strollers that cause potential safety risks to child. I’m just saying, a quick, “We’re sorry we didn’t live up to your standards,” goes a long way.
