Brutal Home Invasion Caught On Nanny Cam Shows A Mother’s Bravery And Will Terrify You

shutterstock_125620952__1372336098_142.196.156.251A New Jersey woman was brutally attacked last week by a man who forced his way into her house in broad daylight. He beat her in front of her 3-year-old daughter – her sleeping 1-year-old was upstairs. A nanny cam she had positioned in her living room taped the whole awful attack. I should warn you that it is very graphic and upsetting to watch.

Having lived in big cities most of my adult life, I always tried to prepare myself for the possibility of a violent encounter. I’ve always taken all of the steps I could to be aware of my environment and avoid potentially dangerous situations by making small decisions that I assumed would keep me safer. For example, I never wore my iPod while walking at night. I wouldn’t take the subway alone after midnight. I would plan the most well-lit path home when walking home from work in my neighborhood. I tried to make plans about how I would react if I were ever attacked. Making these small decisions always made me feel like I had some control over my environment. Being diligent about my safety made me feel like less of a victim. But in all of my worst nightmares – I never imagined a situation like the one this woman endured.

What do you do when you are caught unawares and you have the safety of your children to worry about? I think you naturally have your guard up when you are walking down a city street at night. But hanging out at home with your kids in broad daylight? It was 10:30 a.m. when this attack happened. How could you ever prepare yourself to deal with a situation like this? This woman bravely endured a beating while trying not to react too hysterically because she didn’t want her daughter to scream. She tried to hold herself together while experiencing a painful, terrifying assault:

“I knew that if I started screaming, my daughter would too, and I was afraid she would get hurt,” the young mother said. “I took it. I didn’t cry the entire time.”

Neither the girl nor a 1-year-old boy sleeping upstairs was injured in the attack… The woman is seen being punched and kicked at least 16 times before she was pushed down the basement stairs.

The woman suffered a concussion and facial injuries and the attacker got away with some jewelry – including her wedding ring. Her children were unharmed. Hopefully the images on the nanny cam will lead to a capture, because the attacker is still on the loose. I can’t imagine the terror that this poor woman went through. She’s a hero in my book.
