If You Can’t Stop Laughing Over This Kid’s 911 Prank Call, You Are Not The Strict Parent

It is so difficult to be a strict parent! So many times you want to be stern and lecture a kid and tell them not to do something, but it’s really hard to do when you’re giggling like a 12-year-old.

According to New York, a sixth grader from Savannah, Georgia, had to write a very polite hand-written apology note this week because he prank-called 911 and just shouted “DEEZ NUTS!” at the emergency dispatcher. Now I know that was bad. You can’t prank call 911. 911 is for emergencies. But for some reason–it could be lack of sleep, in which case blame my infant–I cannot stop giggling at the image of this adrenaline-addled 11-year-old calling 911 and shouting “DEEZ NUTS” and thinking it was a great and hilarious phone prank. I mean, Bart Simpson is not exactly worried about his prank call puns being out-clevered here. Kids are so weird.

The boy then wrote the Savannah Police a very earnest handwritten note, and he is so serious and apologetic I do not think he will ever utter the phrase “deez nuts” again.

The little boy then went in person to read the note aloud to the 911 dispatchers, who accepted his apology and took the opportunity to show him “how they work, how prank calls interrupt that work, and how it puts the general public at risk by taking both dispatchers and first responders away from legitimate situations.”

The boy left with a better understanding of the emergency dispatchers and the serious work they do. So that is a good, useful ending to the tale. The little boy learned his lesson, and the most childish person in the whole story is me, because I still can’t stop giggling. I really need to develop a better poker face before my kid can talk, or I am going to be in serious trouble.
