20 of the Best Halloween Movies for Kids
October is the perfect month for binge-watching scary movies. From zombie flicks to horror classics, there are enough scary movies out there to watch at least two a day (if you have that kind of time). But we don’t want young kids to feel left out! While your children might be too young for Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street, there are plenty of spooky movies that are kid-appropriate.
Here are 20 of the best Halloween movies for kids to watch this month, so they can get into the spooky holiday spirit, too!
1. Hocus Pocus (The best of all Halloween movies for kids, in our humble opinion)
https://www.instagram.com/p/BX04AwkgR8p/?taken-by=hocuspocusmovie
The Sanderson sisters are awakened after a long slumber to wreak havoc on Halloween. This movie is funny, slightly spooky, and has Bette Midler in it, so it’s basically perfect.
2. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

We watched this as kids, and it is our duty as parents to make sure our own kids carry on the Halloween tradition!
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

So there’s some debate as to whether Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie. But we are firmly TEAM BOTH. So start watching in October and continue through the holidays.
4. The Addams Family

They’re creepy and they’re kooky, and altogether spooky, they’re the perfect Halloween family! Getting your kids familiar with Addams’ early will make convincing them to be a part of your family costume that much easier.
5. Hotel Transylvania

It’s always Halloween at the Hotel T! Teach kids that monsters are just like us with this funny family film.
6. Halloweentown

What’s a girl to do when she learns that she’s actually a witch? Well, help save Halloweentown, for starters.
7. Frankenweenie
https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ34oGEAJWs/?tagged=frankenweenie
This animated movie about Victor Frankenstein and his zombie dog Frankenweenie is one of the best Halloween movies for kids out there, hands down.
8. The Witches

Ok, this one is admittedly a tad scary. But for kids 10+ or those who can handle seeing a boy turned into mouse, it’s perfect.
9. The Worst Witch
https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ1VISVjahV/?tagged=theworstwitch
The movie about a witch who can’t seem to find her footing at witch academy is an oldie but a goodie. There’s even a really good Netflix series about it now!
10. Twitches
https://www.instagram.com/p/x9QOhFA9o-/?taken-by=twitchesofficial
Tia and Tamera Mowry are twin witches (twitches, get it?) who were separated at birth. One was raised as a witch, and one wasn’t. They find each other, and magical mayhem ensues.
11. Monster House

Nothing says “Halloween” like discovering your neighbor’s house is an actual monster, right?
12. Casper
https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ38jXahN71/?tagged=casper
Our kids would laugh at the production value of the original cartoon, but this 90’s movie about our favorite friendly ghost should pass muster.
13. Coraline
https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ4wNIzHVgm/?tagged=coraline
Ok, so Coraline isn’t technically a Halloween movie. But there’s something about this creepy Neil Gaiman book brought to life that just feels right in October.
14. Haunted Mansion
https://www.instagram.com/p/BHFQX9ZAm_y/?tagged=hauntedmansionmovie
This 2003 movie brings the Haunted Mansion from Disneyland to life, and it’s the perfect kid-friendly ghost story.
15. Halloween is Grinch Night

Everyone associates the Grinch with Christmas, but did you know this Halloween movie is the prequel to that green baddie stealing Christmas?
16. Goosebumps
https://www.instagram.com/p/BAn2wRmHpxX/?taken-by=goosebumpsmovie
Who doesn’t remember reading “Goosebumps” under the covers with a flashlight after bedtime? This revamped remake is a great way to introduce your kids to the series.
17. Ghostbusters
https://www.instagram.com/p/BCf6jU0mYqq/?taken-by=ghostbusters
We love the all-woman reboot, but even the classic original is a great choice for kids this month. Just a heads up, the 80’s Ghostbusters has some language that you don’t typically find in PG-13 movies anymore. Still awesome, though.
18. Monster Squad
https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ4ZCMShE82/?tagged=monstersquad
A group of teens have to save their town from Dracula and his monsters. VERY 80s, VERY awesome.
19. Beetlejuice
https://www.instagram.com/p/BZuLAfWBE7w/?tagged=bettlejuice
Again, not technically a Halloween movie. But this movie about the living dead is a great intro to zombie flicks for when they’re older! And honestly, it’s always Halloween in Lydia’s heart.
20. The Little Vampire
https://www.instagram.com/p/BLCAmvljHri/?tagged=thelittlevampire
A little boy moves to a castle in Scotland and befriends a family of vampires. It’s up to him to save them from a vampire hunter!
You’ve only got 23 more days left in October, so you better get watching! Which one of these Halloween movies for kids do you think your kids will love the most? Tell us in the comments!
