Nutcase Hacks Baby Monitor To Yell ‘Wake Up…Baby!’ At Sleeping Infant

wake up baby Gary BuseyWhat would you do if you woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of a crazed dude screaming “WAKE UP, BABY!” into your baby’s monitor? That is exactly what one Northern Kentucky family went through when a random douche hijacked their wireless baby monitor to watch their little girl sleep.

Adam and Heather Schreck were understandably upset to learn that some weirdo was messing with their baby and even more perturbed that there’s no way to figure out who did it. According to Fox 19, Heather was stirred by the sound of a strange voice around midnight. She figured she was just hearing things, but decided to check on her 10-month-old daughter Emma via a cellphone app that taps into the monitor’s web cam. According to Heather she realized that the camera was moving on its own, and then she heard the screaming voice saying “Wake up, baby! Wake up, baby!” That’s when Adam sprung into action and ran into Emma’s room. Here’s the creepiest part – as he walked into the room the camera slowly panned from Emma to the doorway towards Adam.

At that point the hacker went ballistic and started screaming “bad things and obscenities” at Adam until he unplugged the camera. According to Adam:

“You do kind of feel violated in a way.”

No shit, dude.

Apparently these cameras are insanely easy to hack into if you don’t take the proper precautions. According to Dave Hatter from Infinity Partners:

“More sophisticated hackers know they can use this as a launching off point to get into your network and potentially steal your ID or use your network to launch malicious attacks against someone else.”

Apparently the makers of the camera, Foscam, were aware of their firmware ‘s vulnerabilities and had released a patch to correct it, which the Schrecks were unaware of. Even still, I know I would be spooked if that had happened to me, and I’d probably shy away from using a web cam monitor all together.
