Okay Justin Bieber’s Mom, We’re All Happy Your Son Wasn’t Aborted

shutterstock_119357752I seriously can’t stand it when people use the anti-abortion argument, “I’m so glad I didn’t have that abortion because then my beautiful son wouldn’t exist!” Ever heard of Hitler? What about Pol Pot? I’m pretty sure we can all agree that an abortion clinic would have saved humanity a world of hurt in those cases.

You may all remember Tim Tebow‘s mom waxing poetic about her choice to not abort Tebow in a 2010 Superbowl commercial. She was like “thank God I didn’t abort Tim like my doctor’s advised me to because this Superbowl would not even be happening!” I shouldn’t be using quotes here, because she didn’t actually say that, but that was the gist of the message.

Justin Bieber‘s mom is the latest celebrity mom to make this claim. Oh god. What would the universe be like without Bieber Fever? I shudder to think. The world would probably tip off its axis.

She’s promoting her new anti-abortion movie, Crescendo. I can’t tell from the totally weird trailer, but apparently its message to pregnant teens is, “don’t have an abortion because your son will grow up to be a pop star and make you a billionaire.”  Okay, I’m paraphrasing. She actually says she wants to ”encourage young women all over the world, just like [her], to let them know that there is a place to go, people who will take care of you and a safe home to live in if you are pregnant and think you have nowhere else to turn.”

She’s hoping to raise $10 million dollars for “pregnancy care centers.” I’m pretty sure she doesn’t consider Planned Parenthood to be one.  I’m all for supporting pregnant teens, I just want to make sure we are supporting them with the knowledge that they have a choice whether to have a child or not – not sending them to centers that guilt them into carrying babies they don’t want. Any center that doesn’t offer abortion as an option for young, pregnant women is doing just that.
