Anna Nicole Smith’s 6-Year-Old Daughter Models For GUESS. Yes That Same GUESS
The newest GUESS Kids model has quite a history with the brand, even though she’s only six years old. The young girl’s mother famously modeled for GUESS over two decades ago. Now, Dannielynn Birkhead is following in mom, Anna Nicole Smith‘s shoes. And that’s precisely the problem.
I can still remember the controversy and craziness surrounding the paternity of Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter, Dannielynn. Everyone remember that? The drama with Larry Birkhead and Howard something-or-other, where both men seemed skeazy and untrustworthy. I always felt so sorry for the adorable little girl caught in the middle of it all. Then, after Smith’s death, I really hoped that Birkhead and his little girl would just settle down in seclusion, attempt to lead a normal life.
Now there’s photo evidence that my dream was more than a little naive. Of course, Birkhead would be introducing his daughter to the entertainment industry at a young age.
For the role it’s playing in this young child’s burgeoning exploitation, GUESS seems rather proud of itself. Creative Director Paul Marciano had this to say about the campaign:
“Dannielynn has the same playful spirit that her mother had on a set. She is a second-generation GUESS girl, which makes this campaign a first for us.”
There’s no doubt that Dannielynn is a beautiful little girl. The pictures seem a little serious for a children’s campaign, but that’s nothing new in the world of child modeling. We like our elementary-age kids with sultry smirks and downcast eyes nowadays.
The truth is that I would be upset about this little girl modeling whether she was staring into the sunset or smiling brightly for the camera. I’m just sad to see a girl whose mother was so ravaged by fame thrust into the spotlight — specifically the very same company who profited off of her troubled mother. Yes, Dannielynn is a second-generation model, but I can’t imagine how a father could want his daughter to follow in those footsteps. The ones that ended with Smith tragically losing her life while Dannielynn was still a baby.
Was life in the public eye really some positive force in Anna Nicole’s life that Birkhead wants to emulate? What other reason could there be for signing your little girl up to model with the same brand that made her deceased mother famous?
We all know what those other reasons are. We’ve seen the way they work with parents like Dina Lohan and Kris Jenner. It’s just depressing to see those motivations at work again with a little girl who deserves a quiet, protected childhood, far away from any photographer’s lens.
