Wacky Alabama Lawmaker Makes Wacky Pro-Life Argument By Calling Fetus An Organ

1118184211Those crazy, silly politicians are all up in our uteri again! This time, it comes courtesy of the great state of Alabama (Birthplace of Harper Lee and Rosa Parks! The Yellohammer is the state bird!) where a lawmaker by the name of Mary Sue McClurkin opened her mouth-hole in support of the HB 57 bill (which is a TRAP bill) that regulates state abortion clinics to be more like surgical centers by claiming that a fetus is the “largest organ in a woman’s body.”

Not only does this statement basically prove that anyone can run for office (I’m so getting my campaign ready) even if they are a total idiot, but that the GOP needs better arguments when spouting off their pro-life rhetoric in order to have their bills passed. From the Montgomery Advertiser:

”When a physician removes a child from a woman, that is the largest organ in a body,” McClurkin said in an interview Thursday. ”That’s a big thing. That’s a big surgery. You don’t have any other organs in your body that are bigger than that.”

I know certain pro-life groups want to call fetuses by other names but claiming it is an “organ” is pretty wacky. Even my gallbladder and my skin know better.

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin, R-Pelham, would require physicians at abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at local hospitals; require clinics to follow ambulatory clinic building codes and make it a felony ”” punishable by up to 10 years in prison ”” for a nurse, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant to dispense abortion-inducing medications.

So basically, they are trying to make safe and legal abortions impossible in Alabama, and McClurkin thinks the relatively safe abortion procedure is a “big surgery” because it’s removing an organ from a human body.

I understand that we all have differing opinions in the world. I know some of our readers are adamantly pro-life. I appreciate that and I don’t mind debating my views with people who hold differing views, but at least have the slightest awareness of basic human anatomy before you go spouting off your wacky-logic under the guise of fact.

A fetus is not an organ. Your brain, which is an organ, should have been able to tell you that.
