This Mom’s Brutally Honest Pregnancy Announcement Pissed Off a Lot of People

There are some topics that people generally don’t find funny, as one mom recently found it. Blogger, author, and podcaster Constance Hall took to Facebook to announce her pregnancy, but it was the abortion joke she included that really rubbed people the wrong way. It was very clearly a joke, but man. Some people were mad! Different strokes for different folks, right?

Constance announced her surprise pregnancy on Facebook. In the post, she made an abortion joke, and yikes. You can imagine how well that went.

The post begins, “The commune is welcoming another baby. We have no idea how it slipped through.” Constance goes on to say that she and her partner used various forms of birth control, but obviously unsuccessfully. This surprise is kid #7 for the couple, and it really does seem like a genuine surprise.

But it was a lighthearted and obvious abortion joke that set people off. When you read it, it’s so OBVIOUSLY a joke. But abortion is one of those topics that lots of people feel should not be joked about.

In the post, Constance says they are very much happy about the unexpected addition to their family. She acknowledges that they’re scared (7 KIDS), but says, “But are we happy? Pigs in shit.”

Then Constance joked, “Well…. I’m hormonal, I considered having an abortion this morning because Densy slept in.” Commenters were … displeased.

You worry about the life of the child? Really? Did you not read how happy they were? Gotta love that little dig about tax payers. So worried about a child you don’t want your taxes to go to, mmmmkay.

While there were plenty of nasty comments from people, the majority of her followers offered congratulations and love, and even shared their own oops baby stories. There were even a lot of honest confessions from women who considered termination themselves. The conversation was honest and difficult, but seeing women speak freely about a typically taboo subject was refreshing.

Constance added a comment on her post, apologizing for offending people with her humor.

Quite frankly, we’re glad to see people discussing abortion so openly. Is it something to joke about? We suppose it’s a matter of personal preference. But when taken in context with the entirety of her announcement, it was a comment very clearly made in jest. Just goes to show that people will NEVER pass up an opportunity to judge a women for her reproductive choices.
