This Poor Woman’s 12-Year-Old Tried To Poison Her For Taking Away An IPhone

A 12-year-old girl in Boulder, Colo., has been arrested for trying to poison her mother on at least two different occasions, reportedly because she was angry at her mother for taking away her iPhone.

According to Fox 31 Denver, Boulder police say the 12-year-old successfully sneaked bleach into her mother’s beverages on two separate occasions. The mother allegedly said she did not think anything was amiss the first time she drank a smoothie that smelled like bleach. She just figured her daughter had washed the glass and left some residual cleaning fluid in it by accident.

”It’s pretty scary,” Commander Heidi Prentup said. ”She thought that her daughter had maybe just cleaned the glass and that there was still bleach left in it. Then she started feeling sick.”

Several days later, it allegedly happened again and the mother discovered a carafe of water in her room had been spiked with bleach. At that point she was suspicious and confronted her daughter, who reportedly said right away that she was attempting to kill her mother by poisoning her with bleach, and that she was doing it because her mother took away her iPhone.

”When she smelled the bleach in the carafe she confronted her daughter and her daughter told her that she was trying to kill her for taking her iPhone,” Prentup said.

This story is so awful I can’t even figure out who I pity most in this situation. Clearly the 12-year-old needs serious help. What would have happened to her if she had been successful? And her poor mother knows her daughter genuinely tried to kill her twice. I can’t even imagine what must be going through her head. I hope the 12-year-old gets the help she so obviously needs, and I hope her mother gets some too.

The 12-year-old has been arrested on two charges of attempted first-degree murder and is reportedly currently being held in a juvenile detention facility.
