12-Year-Old Found Murdered After Texting Mom That Someone Kept Knocking on the Door

In a terrible story out of Nashville this week, a 12-year-old girl was brutally murdered in her own home. She was in the house by herself, and she had just texted her mother that somebody kept knocking on the door. Her family found her murdered when they got home, and nobody seems to have any idea what happened.

12-year-old Yhoana Arteaga was home alone

According to People, 12-year-old Yhoana Arteaga was at home by herself on August 10. She was home alone while her family was out, because she was recovering from a skating injury and on crutches.

Arteaga’s mother had lunch with her daughter at 12:30 in the afternoon. Then she went back to work. At 5:40, however, Yhoana texted her mother that someone was knocking at the door.

Just an hour later, Yhoana’s family got home and found her body in their house. Police have not given many details, but what they have reported sounds horrible.

Nashville police Sgt. David Kautzman gave a press conference about the case. He described it as “brutal” and said it was the most horrible thing he’d seen in his entire career.

“This is a horrible, brutal thing,” he told reporters. “I’ve never seen anything this brutal in my entire career.”

The case has been ruled a homicide, and police say they think Yhoana might have known her killer. Police found no signs of forced entry.

There’s not much information yet

So far, there has not been much progress reported. Police hope for useful tips or witnesses on Crimestoppers, but so far there hasn’t been much.

The crime lab has been combing the scene, and police described the case as “a priority” for the scientists.

“Detectives are optimistic that a meaningful lead or leads will result from scientific testing being conducted by the MNPD Crime Laboratory,” the police said in a statement. “This case is a priority for police department scientists as well as fingerprint experts who are studying a number of fingerprints discovered during the processing of the residence.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call Nashville’s Emergency Communications Center at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. A GoFundMe has been set up to help support the family as they grieve.
