Woman Gives Birth Right Outside Hospital, Proving Babies Do Come When They’re Ready

How many times has someone said that to you? Well, you may not be forty-plus weeks pregnant right now like I am – but I’ve heard this more times than I can count over the last week or so. Yes, there is a part of me that knows and believes that – but there are moments when I feel like this child has taken up permanent residence and I’ll never sleep on my stomach or walk without waddling again.

I wonder if Amy Beth Cavaretta was feeling the same way in the days before her daughter was born in a wheelchair outside the front door of a hospital in Boca Raton, Florida.

Amy, her husband Joe Cavaretta headed to the hospital early Friday morning when Amy was in labor. By her own admission, “she experienced a fast birth with her first daughter and handled pain well.” The couple had hired a birth photographer to document the event, who was following them to the hospital. When they got out of the car, their midwife had just arrived at the hospital as well and was waiting on the curb. Seriously, all of the planets aligned for this little family on that early morning.

Photographer Emily Robinson told the Huffington Post:

“When we pulled up to the hospital, there wasn’t any sort of panic — nobody thought the baby was going to come right then. The midwife was out there waiting for us, coincidentally, and that’s when Amy walked up to the curb and leaned into the pillar and said, ‘The baby is coming out.”

The photographer captured the whole amazing moment in a series of photographs you can see on her blog. With all of the preparation and nerves involved in preparing to give birth to a child, this story is like a breath of fresh air. Seeing how calmly the parents and everyone around them handles the whole surprise birth reminds me that most of the time birth is a natural, uncomplicated process.
