Ignorant Parents Prefer Bullying To Buddhism

Ignorant Parents Prefer Bullying To Buddhism

Can practicing mindfulness make kids less likely to bully one another? Maybe; there certainly isn’t anything wrong with putting it into practice. Not unless you’re horrified at the prospect of your kids learning a technique that originated in a different culture, at least. Parents? If the worst thing you have to worry about your kid getting exposed to at school is a little Buddhist meditation, then you should be grateful. There are a lot of worse things that could be happening to them. Like getting bullied, for example. More »

I Hope The Girls Who Bullied Aaron Paul’s Wife Watched The Emmys Last Night

I Hope The Girls Who Bullied Aaron Paul's Wife Watched The Emmys Last Night

Last night, while accepting his third Emmy, actor and class act Aaron Paul used a few seconds of his time on stage to direction attention to a foundation called The Kind Campaign. The foundation, whose website Paul crashed with the flood of post-Emmy hits that headed its way was co-founded by Paul’s wife Lauren. She’s someone with more than a passing familiarity with bullying of this brand: her junior high treatment by her cohorts left her depressed and suicidal, and now she’s out to make the world a better place, a little kindness at a time. I wonder if any of the girls who harassed her in school were watching last night, and if so, I wonder if they clicked over to the site and recognized the girl they’d given so much grief all those years ago? Add "Am I Pretty?" Videos To The List Of Reasons Parents Are Terrified Of The Internet

It is nothing new for kids to be this way toward one another but now they have so many immediate avenues for spewing their hatred and bullying- it is no wonder that kids commit suicide and participate in so many harmful behaviors these days. It is so easy for kids to hurt themselves and others through social media and to have their self-esteem destroyed. More »

Shocking Video Shows Mom And Humanitarian Angelina Jolie Exploited By Scumbag From Her Past

Even if the video shows a “strung-out” Jolie it’s hard for me to be scandalized by this. I have done many stupid things in my own life and I think a lot of us look back on our pasts and cringe, and when you look at all of the incredible humanitarian work Jolie does now it just seems so icky to be dredging up something from her past and scattering it all over the media. 30 Frat Members To Be Charged In Hazing Death Of 19-Year Old And The Punishment Will Never Be Enough

I don’t know about all of you Mommyish readers, but since I became a mother, I have spent an inordinate amount of time day-dreaming about my children’s futures. I worry, I wonder, I giggle and sometimes, I shudder. Being a youngish mom, I remember my youth very clearly- both the good and the bad. I remember times where I desperately wanted to fit in with a certain group of people and I know I did things to make that happen that would have made my mom cry. More »

I Think It Sucks To Red-Shirt Your Child For The Wrong Reasons

Red-shirting has always been around but has gained a lot of traction in recent years in the parenting world. For the grade school uninitiated, this is the practice of holding back a child from beginning school even though their birthday falls within the confines of a state’s school cut-off date. It is done for a variety of reasons- developmental, academic, age and future athletic prospects are all reasons cited for holding a child back from starting school. More »

Dr. Sears’ Philosophy On Sharing Will Offend Any Non-Attachment Parent

Dr. Sears' Philosophy On Sharing Will Offend Any Non-Attachment Parent

I’ve poked fun at Dr. Sears in the past for being Dr. Judgy McJudgerson, but in reality, I have no problem with the guy. I actually appreciate many of his resources for sick kids. His information is informative and calming for a stressed-out parent. Mostly, I try to give him the benefit of the doubt, until I catch some ridiculous subtext woven into one of his articles. More »

School Officials Concerned About Self-Mutilating 'Eraser Challenge' Have Clearly Never Met Idiot Kids Before

I get that parents need to be informed, but sometimes I am so eye-rolly about the supposed dangerous trends that kids are coming up with these days. NEWSFLASH, parents: Unless you have 100% blocked out your own childhood, we have all done these stupid things before. Kids been doing stupid things since the dawn of time, which is why this latest “eraser challenge” outbreak should come as no surprise. More »
