We Should All Be Angry That Another Mother Is Burying Her Son After He Was Killed By Police

We Should All Be Angry That Another Mother Is Burying Her Son After He Was Killed By Police

I’m heartbroken today because watching parents bury their child is something that I will never be able to comprehend without debilitating grief and compassion.

I’m angry today because imaging what these parents have been through in the past two weeks — defending the fact that their son had a right to come away from a brief altercation with police alive is infuriating. More »

Internet Angrier At Parents Who Took Kids To Ferguson Protest Than Police Who Fired Tear Gas At Them

Internet Angrier At Parents Who Took Kids To Ferguson Protest Than Police Who Fired Tear Gas At Them

Yes, there are children there. It was hours before the curfew. It was a peaceful protest. Turning anger on the parents, who were well within their rights to be there, protesting peacefully and teaching their kids to protest peacefully, is ridiculous. Protesters had dispersed before curfew the night before with no incident. Many do not agree, turning their judgment on the parents rather than at authorities who would lob tear gas into crowds where they damn well knew children were More »

#ThingsITellMyBlackSon Shows How Terrifying It Is To Raise A Black Child In This Country

As parents, we worry everyday about our children. Just the regular day-to-day details of raising a child are enough to keep a mother up at night. Imagine adding to that worry, the knowledge that because of the color of your child’s skin, he is disproportionately unsafe in the world. Because of the color of his skin he will always be a suspect. Because of the color of his skin you will need to teach him all manner of ways to survive amongst a society that would brand him a dangerous criminal simply for daring to exist while brown. More »

No, The Black Student Body President Who Posed As An Entitled White Boy Isn’t ‘Racist’

No, The Black Student Body President Who Posed As An Entitled White Boy Isn't 'Racist'

I think we can all agree that teenagers make bad decisions. Maya Peterson, Lawrenceville School’s first black, female student body president was forced to resign after she made fun of some white classmates on social media and her white classmates found it none too funny. They also may have reported a photo of her smoking weed. Considering the entire world has a history of white boys making fun of black, lesbian girls and also smoking weed, I fail to see what all the outrage is about. More »

‘Obama Is Rewarding Lazy Pigs With Food Stamps’ Says Racist Schools Chief Who Refuses To Resign

'Obama Is Rewarding Lazy Pigs With Food Stamps' Says Racist Schools Chief Who Refuses To Resign

The Republican public schools chief in Arizona has announced that he will not resign amid controversy over some really racist, horrific comments he made anonymously on a blog. He said, among other things, that the Spanish language should be outlawed in the United States. Twenty percent of the population of his state speaks Spanish, so he’s obviously the right choice for leadership there. This is so disgusting. More »

Your Blood Is Going To Boil When You Read The Comments On This Leaked Video Of Two Kids Fighting

Your Blood Is Going To Boil When You Read The Comments On This Leaked Video Of Two Kids Fighting

These kids fighting are bad enough. It’s horrible and awful and makes me never want to let my own kids take a bus anywhere, but what worries me more than the kids fighting are the comments left by people who viewed this video, because some of these people are out there breeding. Both kids are wrong. I would say the boy is “less wrong” than the girl, but they both need a big talking to. They don’t worry me as much as the people commenting on the fight. More »
